Margaret A (Merrill) Shaw

Monson - Margaret “Peg” A. (Merrill) Shaw passed away at home September 16, 2016 with her husband by her side. Daughter of the late Amos A. and Margaret (Gunther) Merrill. The seventh of eight children, she was born in Springfield, Mass. September 11, 1940. She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Francis “Bud,” Amos “Zeke,” James “Donnie” Merrill, and her sister Shirley O’Connor. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Landry, and brothers Richard and Robert Merrill.

She leaves her loving husband of 56 years, Frederick W. Shaw. A daughter, Amy M. (Shaw) McClosky and her husband Joe, her sons Frederick W. Shaw Jr., and Wayne L. Shaw and his wife Karen. Six grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremiah McClosky, Karissa (McClosky) Ruiter, Amanda (Huckins) Austin, Elizabeth Shaw, one step-granddaughter, Sarah Deyo, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.  

Peg loved to bake, sew, knit, crochet, and quilt. She was always learning new crafts and sharing her new skills with her family and friends. Known among family and friends for her cake decorating skills, her grandchildren especially looked forward to her decorated birthday cakes. She loved being outdoors, and spent many years biking, walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing before taking up golf with Fred.
She was a graduate of Tech High School in Springfield, worked for a time at the Federal Bakery; then went on to study for her Realtor and Brokers license. She was employed by Whyte Co. of Springfield, Landmark Realtors of Hampden and Monson, finally retiring from Remax of Wilbraham. Peg loved to spend her winters over the past 15 years in Florida with Fred, where they made many new and dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held, Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 9-11am with a Memorial service at 11am in Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson MA. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Center at St. Francis 114 Woodland St, Hartford, CT 06105 or Florida Hospital Waterman, 1000 Waterman Way, Tavares, FL 32778.
