Polly Gustafson

Biography

Monson- Polly (Apolonia) T. (Starzyk) Gustafson, 100, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015, surrounded by the love of family. Polly was born in the Bondville section of Palmer, September 19, 1915 to the late Joseph and Bertha (Kos) Starzyk. When she began school she did not speak english. She learned a new language and persevered to work hard for her family and herself. Polly was the produce manager at Food Basket in Palmer for many years and then worked at Goodwill before her retirement. She has made her home in Monson since 1938 where she enjoyed reading, gardening and furniture re-finishing. Polly was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and enjoyed going to the Monson Free Library.

Mrs. Gustafson was predeceased by her husband Evert W. " Webby" Gustafson in 1992. She leaves her daughter Joanne "Jan' Gustafson of Chesterfield, NH; her son Carl Gustafson and his wife Joanne of Hadley; a grandson Dana Gustafson and his wife Amy of Springfield and two great grandchildren Grace and Aiden. Polly was predeceased by her three brothers, John, Joseph and Anthony Starzyk and two sisters Julia Holda and Elizabeth Marcinak.


A graveside service will be held Friday, November 6, 2015 at 11am at Bethany Cemetery in Monson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Monson Free Library, High St., Monson, MA 01057.
