Life Legacy


West Hartford-Mary E. Coleman, 65 of West Hartford, CT beloved wife for thirty-five years of Martin J. Proulx passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday, November 24, 2011 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain General Campus. The cause of death was breast cancer. She was born March 21, 1946 in Philadelphia PA daughter of the late Earl E. and Helen A.(Jonah) Coleman. Mary grew up in Monson, Massachusetts and was a graduate of Monson High School, she also graduated from Clark University in Worcester MA with a BA in History and earned her Master's Degree in History from Trinity College where she met Martin Proulx who she married in 1976. Mary had been a resident of West Hartford since 1987.

Besides a variety of jobs during her career including; social worker at Worcester Children's Friend, claim's adjuster, actuarial analyst, computer programmer, project manager and computer consultant, Mary expressed her passionate love of choral music by her volunteer efforts as a Director of the New England Chamber Choir and the Connecticut Choral Artists Friends of Bach as well as her involvement in various church choirs over the years.

Most recently she was Administrator of the International Ph.D. program and an adjunct staff faculty member at the Hartford Seminary in Hartford CT. She was also Assistant Editor for the journal Reviews in Religion and Theology and at the time of her death was preparing to submit her dissertation for a Ph.D. in Theology and Ethics from the University of Exeter in Exeter England. Mary was a member of the Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford and was a past member of the church choir.

Besides her husband, Mary is survived by her two sons, Lt. Edward Coleman Proulx, USMC and his fiance Maggie Selzer of Corpus Christi, TX, and James Coleman Proulx of West Hartford; her sister Alice L. Coleman of Arizona; her niece Lissee Lombard-Krzynowek of Monson, MA and nephew Francis Lombard of West Springfield, MA; two great nephews and a great niece as well as numerous friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11am at Asylum Hill Congregational Church 814 Asylum Avenue Hartford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be held, Tuesday November 29, 2011 from 5-8pm at Asylum Hill Congregational Church in the Twitchell Room.
