I have happy memories of joking with my cousin Ed when he and I shared an apartment in Hartford when he was still dating Carolyn…a long time ago. We have not spent much time together since then, but we had that bond. It’s hard to believe that I won’t be able to share those memories with him again.
Here’s another memory: family reunion 1999 in Ludlow & Ed’s son yelling at my daughter – both about 12 years old – “Get over here and play cards, Woman!” He got in trouble for that!
Much love to all the family. –Bill Davis

Our family has such fond memories of Ed which we'll hold in our hearts forever. VIctoria remembers her first "tractor" ride with "uncle" Ed when she was 6. I'll never forget how in 1990 he insisted I stay on at your house until a bad snow storm had passed, probably saved my life and my little Julia's too. We all so admired his ability to catch fish, crabs and dig up bushels of clams. He was such a kind husband to let Carolyn and I go on many week long girlfriend adventures to the Cape. We were so blessed that he came on our last Cape adventure and showed us where to catch silver strikers just at dusk. He had a smile that could melt butter and a heart bigger than a house. We will all so miss this dear man, husband, father. We send you so much love and pray your memories of Ed sustain you always.
Love,
Laura, Tim, Julia & Victoria Sprowls

I only met Ed and Carolyn once. However, I have heard for several years from my son about these warm and welcoming people. Ed certainly shared his love of life with his family and all who crossed his path. Offering my sympathy to Carolyn, Mike and Peter. Wishing you the strength to get through these difficult times and be comforted by your many memories of a good man.

Carolyn, Peter and Michael, Our deepest sympathies to the Szarlan family on the passing of a wonderful Husband, Father and co worker. Ed was a truly generous and kind person who always appreciated his children, his home and most important, his wife. Never was he for a loss of words when it came to these topics. I can truly say I am a better person for having Ed a part of my life for 25 years.

My condolences to the Szarlan family. I went through all 12 school grades in the same classes as Ed, and was at UMASS with him as well. So many, many great memories and shared experiences that shaped both our lives.
Rest in peace D.

Ed I know you as Mike's Dad and great Friend to Danny. I remember you as the fastest and best clam shucker ever. Always had a smile and made others smile. I know there are so many other stories of your life and I look forward to hearing about them from Mike and Dan.

Dear Family. My deepest condolences on the passing of Ed. I was a coworker of his for many years at Atria. He was a humorous and to the point type of person and I always appreciated that about him. I am so sorry for your loss of a wonderful guy.

May your memories of Ed, and all the countless ways in which he enriched your life be a life raft through these early difficult days. He was like a second father to my brother, and I'm so grateful that he had such a wonderful role model in life (and in hunting and fishing, of course). Sending my heartfelt condolences to the Szarlan family.

To the Szarlan Family, I am deeply saddened to hear of Ed's passing. I have worked with Ed for 25 years and started with him in the CT district. He and I shared many conversations about our boys, college and opportunities. I will miss seeing and talking with Ed at meetings.
