MARTY (CATHRO) USHER POOLE
1940 -2019
HOLYOKE- Martha Louise (Cathro) Poole, 79, passed away on December 24, 2019 at Holyoke Medical Center. She was called home on Christmas Eve to see the beautiful lights from her heavenly home above. Marty was born on November 8, 1940 a daughter of the late Thomas and Edna (Blanchette) Cathro. She was raised in Holyoke and educated in Holyoke Schools. Marty was a Holyoke Police 911 Dispatcher and served the city for over 32 years retiring in 2004. She also attended business school and graduated the top of her class.

She loved excitement and was an avid Bingo player, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun winner, enjoyed traveling to the beaches in MA, NH, the Bahamas and Maine. Marty recently traveled to Scotland to trace her family’s history and heritage. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would provide them with so much love and anything else they needed. Marty is survived by her husband of 33 years, David Poole of Holyoke who was also her first-class caregiver. Her strength and determination were evident throughout her life and her willingness to stand up for others.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her four children; Lynn Usher and Art Usher both of Holyoke; David Usher of Westfield and Michael Usher of Wilbraham; two step children, Kelly Dulude of Jericho, VT and Gina Poole of Chicopee. She also leaves her sister, Doris Solt of OH and her brother Earl Cathro of Holyoke. Marty will be missed by her 10 grandchildren, Jessica Hogan, Ashley Rebelo, Brittany Young, Jeffrey Usher, Haley Gaudette, Emily Usher, Isabella and Maya Usher, Nicole Martin and Fiona Dulude as well as her 6 great grandchildren. Marty leaves her nieces Christine and Katie and her extended family and many dear friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Tommy D. Cathro in 1987. 

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 1-4PM at Curran-O’Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley, MA 01075 with a funeral home service at 3:00pm. A post funeral meal will follow at Wyckoff CC.

 The family would like to thank the staff at ARA Dialysis in Agawam/Holyoke and Springfield for their outstanding care and genuine love of sharing themselves with Marty, who loved each and every one of them.
