Monson- Shirley R. Good, PhD, 88, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018. Shirley was born in Toronto, Canada and has been an area resident for many years. She was a University Professor and Nurse. Shirley's career in nursing spanned over 40 years beginning in Toronto, Canada. She was a graduate of the University of Toronto and then moved to NYC where she earned a doctorate in nursing education from Columbia Teachers College which was the only university to offer doctoral degrees to nurses in 1969 in North America. She then moved to Calgary, Alberta where she founded the College of Nursing at the University of Calgary. Her career in the US began in Fresno, California and ended with retirement from the University of Connecticut. She is known for authoring two award winning textbooks in nursing.
Locally Shirley was known as co-owner of Stirling Kennels in Monson. Shirley's love of dogs combined with that of Susan Rodgers' years showing Airedale Terriers over the past 35 years they became known for producing top winners in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia with wins at Westminster and many Bests in Show.
Shirley leaves behind many friends, her partner of many years Susan and her godson Allan Rosenfield of Toronto.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for the Spring.
