Bettyle (Youd) Carpenter

June 24, 1923 — April 11, 2019

Bettyle (Youd) Carpenter, 95, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2019 in her apartment at Orchard Valley in Wilbraham.  Bettyle, daughter of William and Bertha Youd, born on June 24, 1923 in Mariposa, CA. She graduated High School in 1941 and went on to continue her education at Modesto Jr College.

In 1942 she was employed by the National Park Service in accounting at Yosemite National Park in CA. It was here that she met her loving husband Robert (Bob) Carpenter [1922-2014]. The two worked together and went on to get married in Philadelphia on June 20, 1969.
In later years she became an administrative officer for the Eastern Office of Design and Construction in Philadelphia. She took early retirement in 1971.

She and Bob moved to Ashley Falls, MA where she became the Head Hostess at the 1735 Colonel Ashley House.
Bettyle and Bob moved to Monson, MA in 1978. She became a member of the Button Club and the First Church. They both volunteered at the Thorton Burgess House in Hampden and at the Keep House in Monson.
Bettlyle and Bob did extensive travel to all corners of the world with tours though their connections to the National Park Service. She always brought back informative history, buttons, and fabric from all the different countries they visited.

Before her health declined, she was very active in Genealogy. The information she has collected of our family is outstanding. She also enjoyed quilting, tapestry, ceramics, baking, and collecting buttons. She loved all animals especially cats. She always had one or two that she adored and spoiled.

She leaves behind her brother in law Harold Carpenter and his wife Lillian Carpenter of Monson, three nieces, 3 nephews, and 6 great nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. in Monson, MA, Monday May 13, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 5:00pm with a 4:45 pm service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bettyle’s name to The Keep Homestead Museum 35 Ely Road, Monson, MA 01057.
