Monson-Diana Hague (Smith) passed away on January 5 at age 79. She was born in Westfield, MA on June 1, 1946 to Gordon and Priscilla (Arnold) Smith. She grew up on “The Hill” as their family called their home. She graduated from Westfield High School in 1964 and from Hartwick College in 1968 with a degree in psychology. She married Bob Hague of Southwick that same year. Di, as she was known to her friends and family, and Bob settled in Monson on Lake Paradise where they have lived for over 50 years. She was the owner of Nature’s Pantry in Monson when she retired.

Di leaves her husband of 57 years Bob and two daughters: Melanie Hague of Las Vegas and Amy Sacco and her husband Anthony of Brimfield. She also leaves four cherished grandsons (the boys) who she never stopped thinking about: Rob, Fletcher, Spencer and James Sacco; her devoted brother Gordon Smith and his wife Delia of Albuquerque, her double cousin Cindy Quackenbush who was like a sister to her, sharing a lifetime of laughter and mischief, and her husband CarrLane of Monson and her brother-in-law Jon Hague and his wife Dot of Worthington. Also, nieces Heidi Evans, Jenny Smith, Elizabeth Cochran and nephew Bobby Smith, and their families.

And for fun? Di loved to spend time with her daughters, going to the boys’ sporting events, playing tennis, which she did for 40 plus years at Wilbraham and Ludlow Tennis Clubs, gardening, watching the Red Sox, wintering in California, hiking, dancing, Cape Cod, cruising (land or sea), attending Claudia’s dinner parties with the neighborhood gang and, this cannot be overstated, spending time with the boys.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering to remember Di at The Barn at Wight Farm, 420 Main Street, Sturbridge, MA on  Friday, January 23 from 4 to 7pm.

Instead of flowers, you may make a donation to the Massachusetts Children’s Alliance, an organization that advocates for and provides recovery resources for victims of child abuse, or a charity of your choice.

Di shined a light on everyone who knew her. She will be forever missed.
