Monson- Eleanor Frost Prybylo, 95, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021 at her home surrounded by love. Eleanor was born in Easthampton, MA to the late Alice (Lahai) Frost and Gerald R. Frost. She was a graduate of Classical High School and continued her education at Springfield Hospital School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse. Eleanor was also a graduate of the US Army Cadet Nurse Corps.
She was the Head Nurse at Springfield Hospital Pediatrics Department. In 1951 she began her next most rewarding career of being a Mother of her growing family and raising six children. Eleanor grew up in Springfield and lived in Longmeadow for many years. In the 1950's the summer lake house was purchased and in later years she would spend half the year in Northampton and the other half at the lake. Upon her husband's retirement, Monson became their full time home at the beloved lake house.
Eleanor was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Monson. For many years she volunteered for March of Dimes, Meals on Wheels, St. Mary's in Longmeadow’s "Loaves and Fishes” program, and was an early volunteer driving AID's patients to appointments. Her care and compassion were always present to comfort those in need.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Dr. John A. Prybylo in 2007. She leaves her children; John A. Prybylo Jr and wife Linda of Harpswell, ME, David C. Prybylo and husband Dale Siar of Charlotte, NC, Alan R. Prybylo and wife Melinda McCall of Williamsburg, Robert F. Prybylo and wife Mary of Bangor, ME, Faith A. Chen of Ashland, and beloved best friend Martha K. Prybylo of Monson; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Eleanor was predeceased by her two older brothers Gerald R. Frost, Jr and Richard Frost. The three siblings were known in their childhood neighborhood as Big Frosty, Little Frosty and Baby Frosty.
The Family would like to thank Constance Victoria Darko Mensah from Accra, Ghana, who for more than 15 years provided the most expert and compassionate care to both Eleanor and John. We are grateful that such a woman of faith, grace and strength will forever be part of our family. We also thank Elizabeth Ghansah and all the kind care providers from Baystate Hospice for their end of life care. You will forever be in our hearts.
Services will be Thursday, December 30, 2021. A visiting hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 11am in St. Patrick's Church 22 Green St with Burial to follow at Bethany Cemetery all in Monson.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Baystate Hospice and VNA 30 Capital Drive West Springfield, MA 01089 . In Eleanor’s honor please consider calling your U.S. Senator or Congressional Representative and urge them to support the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition Act to honor the more than 120,000 women who served with honorary veteran status.
