Monson-Gerald (Gerry) Alifano , 79, died Thursday July 2, 2015 surrounded by the love of family. Gerald was born in Cambridge, MA on February 22, 1936 to John J. Alifano, Sr., M.D. and Helen (Ferrace) Alifano. He graduated from Classical High School in Springfield, MA and American International College. He received his law degree from New England School of Law in Boston and became a practicing attorney in Springfield for 37 years. In 1998 he retired to Santa Fe, New Mexico. He enjoyed history, particularly civil war, classical music, and opera , many of which he enjoyed at the Santa Fe Opera House. In 2010, he returned to Massachusetts. He was also a sportsman - hunting in many of the western states. He was a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the North America Hunting Club, and the NRA.
He leaves behind his wife Carolyn (Johnson) Alifano along with three step-children, Robert M. Chmieleski, Jr. (Jessica) of Grayslake, IL, Jill Sharif (Tarek) of Sudbury, MA, and Jean-Anne Brown of Plainfield, NH. He also leaves behind his brother, John J. Alifano, Jr., M.D .,(Claudia) of Longmeadow, MA. He also had seven step-grandchildren, Katherine, Allison, and Emily Chmieleski, Logan and Eden Brown, Ameera and Emma Sharif all whom will miss him dearly. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Diane Martin (John) of Old Saybrook, CT. He will also be missed by his faithful canine companion, Contessa Bella.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers for the wonderful care and understanding they provided to Gerry.
Calling hours will be at Lombard Funeral Home, 3 Bridge Street, Monson, MA on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 5-7pm. Entombment will be private at the Holy Family Chapel Mausoleum, St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol, CT.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations may be made to the Dakin Humane Society, P.O. Box 6307, 171 Union Street, Springfield, MA 01101-6307.
