James W Gustafson, Jr

Monson-James W. Gustafson, Jr., known to friends and family as Jim, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the age of 76. He was born on September 28, 1948, in Stafford, Connecticut. Jim was graduate of Monson High School, setting the stage for a career that spanned over many years as a tool designer retiring from the engineering department at Smith & Wesson in 2016.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Emelda L. (Tassinari) Gustafson. Together, they raised a wonderful family that includes a son, Eric “Jamie” Gustafson and his partner, Andreza Medeiros, of Frisco, Texas; daughter, Ginger Dahlquist, along with her husband, Eric, from Pennsylvania. Jim took great joy in being a grandfather to his grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to his life. 

He also shared strong bonds with his siblings. He is remembered fondly by his brothers, Jack D. Gustafson and his wife, Sage, Jeff Gustafson, and Frank Gustafson and his wife, Pam. His sisters, Jeanne Pietraalo and husband Coop, Jerri Muller and husband Gus, Jane Shorette and husband John, and Lisa Sullivan and husband Alan were also an important part of his life. Jim was predeceased by his father, James W. Gustafson, and his mother, June (Chase) Gustafson Hermanson.

 In addition to his work and family, Jim had a passion for the outdoors. For many years he coached Monson youth sports. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Swift River Sportsman Club. He treasured vacationing in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire at Lake Ossipee, where he created many memories over the years.

Jim's legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will remember him for his warmth, dedication, and love of nature and animals. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lombard Funeral Home of Monson. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 2-5pm at the funeral home. A Funeral Home service will be Monday April 28, 2025 at 10am in the Funeral Home. Burial and Committal Prayers will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Monson.

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to Second Chance Animal Rescue or the Monson Senior Center.
