Monson- James (Jim) S. Haynes, 81, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026 surrounded by the love of family. Born on May 13, 1945, Jim lived a life marked by kindness, friendship, and a relentless dedication to both his professional and personal passions.

Jim earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts from Fitchburg State College, which led to a meaningful career in education and product development. He began his teaching career at Nauset Regional Junior/Senior High School on Cape Cod and later taught at Minnechaug Regional High School for 19 years. After retiring from teaching, Jim worked with the research and development teams at Dialectric Industries and Reebok, where he played an instrumental role in the development of Reebok Pump shoes. He also worked at Zero Manufacturing in Monson. In retirement, Jim and his wife Ellen owned and operated Dandy Sales, specializing in the sale of Copar Panzer, Panzer and Pennsylvania garden tractor parts.

Beyond his professional life, Jim was a member of several antique car clubs as well as antique gas engine clubs, where his enthusiasm for history and craftsmanship was well appreciated. He enjoyed tag sales and flea markets, always hunting for bargains. His love for the outdoors led him to regular camping, hiking, and biking excursions, pursuits that brought him closer to nature and fostered a spirit of adventure. Jim’s woodworking and metalworking skills were an example of his creativity, earning him the Arthur E. Purington Award.

His heart extended generously toward church, animals and community service. He was a proud member of the Monson Fire Department for 36 years. He also contributed countless hours and effort to Habitat for Humanity, embodying his belief in the importance of helping others and building stronger communities.

Jim was a man who truly got along with everyone. He was known for his friendliness and generous spirit. His legacy is one of warmth, commitment, and a passion for life’s diverse pleasures. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim is remembered by his loving wife Ellen A. (Coolong) Haynes, whose companionship and support were a source of great joy and strength in his life. He also leaves behind a circle of nieces and nephews: Steven, Deborah, Beverly, Catherine, Andrew, Katherine, and Cynthia, who will carry forward his memory.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Marie (Blomfield) Haynes, his father, Walter Lincoln Haynes, his brother, Philip L. Haynes, his sister, Martha Wood Phfaler, and his niece Barbara.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, June 18, 2025 from 5-8pm at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St in Monson. A funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church of West Brookfield on Friday June 19, 2026 at 10am. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery on Wilbraham Road in Monson.
