Monson - With deep sadness we announce the passing of Joan (Boudreau) Genholt, 95, on April 28, 2026. She was born on October 24, 1930 in Hartford, CT to the late Edmund and Irene (Papineau) Boudreau.
Joan is survived by her siblings, Lillian Carpenter and her husband Harold of Monson, and Donald Boudreau and his wife Carol of South Carolina. She leaves behind her children, Paul Genholt and his wife Dale, Kathy Landry and her husband Ronald, Joyce Genholt, and Daniel Genholt and his spouse William Tantillo. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Zachary Genholt, Tamarisk Genholt, Darren Landry, and the late Jennifer Landry. She was cherished by many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Genholt and her sisters Patricia Loncto, Muriel Dewey, and her twin sister Joyce Cookman.
Joans first job was at Peerless Laundry in Monson, where she met her husband, Raymond. She also worked at Church Company and Springfield Molders while raising her family. One of her greatest joys was helping to run Sunsetview Farm Camping Area in Monson, with her sister and brother-in-law Lillian and Harold Carpenter. Joan was involved with many activities throughout her life. She had a great love of Mickey Mouse and surrounded herself with all things Mickey! With great pride, Joan was a Deacon in the First Church in Monson for many years, and also sang in the church choir. She was involved with the Hearts Willing club, and was a mentor for many teens throughout many mentorship programs. Joan helped bring an AA support group to the church, which is still active to this day. Joan also loved working with stained glass making many exquisite projects. This interest led her to be part of a committee that helped restore the stained-glass windows at the First Church of Monson.
A woman of great humor and a love of all sports, made her ready to discuss any game or any race of the moment. Joan was the kind of person who would jump in and offer help and assistance whenever or wherever she was needed.
In 1990 Joan proudly earned her GED from the adult education center (O.W.L.), in Springfield, giving her a technical background, which earned her a position at Tyco Electronics Corp. in Stafford, CT.
But sadly in 2005, Joan suffered a stroke which slowed her down, a bit. She embraced current technology, and became a master puzzle maker and an electronic gamer while recovering at home. Joan was an incredibly strong woman. Her soul persevered through many struggles. With everything she was dealt with over her life, she found the strength to persevere and make the most of every situation. If you had the honor of meeting Joan, you became her friend.
Special thanks to all the nurses, aids, staff and residents at Life Care of Wilbraham; for their loving and compassionate care during her final months.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in Joan's name to The First Church of Monson 5 High Street Monson, MA 01057 or the Monson Senior Center 106 Main Street Monson, MA 01057
A celebration of life will be announced and is planned for the Fall season.
