Hampden-John R. Moriarty, 89, of Hampden Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2026. Jack was the first-born son of John F. and Catherine T. Moriarty. He leaves his sister Maureen Hannam and her husband Jim, and brother Laurence Moriarty and his wife Jan. Bebe Moriarty, who was Jack's best friend of seventy-five years and his bride of sixty-five, went to heaven on March 15, 2024. Bebe and Jack raised four daughters; Melissa, Michaele, Jacqueline, and Teri, and they have five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Jack's parents moved their family to Hampden in 1950. Jack graduated from Springfield Trade High School's Welding Shop in 1955. In 1958 Jack married the beautiful Beatrice Ann Henrich in St. Mary's church on Main Street in Hampden, a marriage that would last sixty-five plus years. Early on Jack was a member of the Hampden Volunteer Fire Department, he was a lifelong supporter of VFW Post 9397 in Hampden, and later a volunteer of the Hampden Senior Center. Jack was a member of the Teamster's Local 404 for over forty years. From straight trucks and semi-tractor trailers, to concrete mixers and turnpike doubles, Jack drove 'em all.
Jack was a "fix it" kind of guy and he was always working on a project of some kind. From fixing the washing machine to building another street rod - it didn't matter. He was always willing to help a neighbor or friend with their projects too.
For 62 years, Jack and Bebe raised angus beef cattle on their property in town, calling it Vision Hill Farm. If you asked Jack the secret to his longevity, he'd say he was blessed with a guardian angel who pulled him back from the edge more than a few times, was married to the most beautiful and tolerant woman in the world, had a loving family, and a ton of really great friends. “So don't cry at my wake, I had a hell of a run.”
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 10 from 1 – 4 pm at Lombard Funeral Home, 3 Bridge Street, Monson. Private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hampden Senior Center’s Program and Activities Fund, 104 Allen St., Hampden, MA 01036.
