William (Bill) Metz, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on January 5, 2026. Bill was a kind and thoughtful man, known for his gentle spirit and generous nature. Bill was born on January 16, 1949, in Buffalo, NY to the late Eugene John Metz and Ann Marie Metz.
He was the heart of his family; a guiding light and pillar of strength. He dedicated his life to his children; nurturing and supporting them with unconditional love. He attended every sporting event, whether they were playing or coaching. He made sacrifices for them; working tirelessly for their comfort and their futures. He was always a source of wisdom and guidance. Bill was not only the world’s greatest dad to his kids; he was a dad to so many. He was best known for his compelling stories, unwavering kindness and his legendary, all-embracing hugs.
His intrinsic motivation led him to earn a Bachelor's degree from Canisius University. His strong work ethic began at his first job running a paper route at the young age of 8, leading him to become the Vice President of Parker Brothers at the still young age of 32. He enjoyed a life-long career in sales where he was known for his charisma and ability to connect with anyone and everyone he met. He was resilient and enthusiastic. He had an extraordinary ability to walk into a room of strangers and leave with a room full of new friends.
He was quite literally the strongest man we knew, battling and overcoming many unforeseen illnesses throughout his life. In Bill’s later years, his three grandchildren were the cornerstone of his life. He moved to Monson, MA to be closer to them. His most favorite recent memories were getting them off the school bus and spending time with them building puzzles, playing dinosaurs and doing wizardry.
Bill is survived by his loving children Taylor Metz, Chandler Metz, Kaylie Bishop and Timothy Bishop; grandchildren Zachary, Greyson and Jordyn; sister-in-law Linda Metz; niece Jamie Metz; and many cherished cousins and friends. Bill was predeceased by his brother James John Metz.
