Yolande A Wysocki

Wales-Yolande A. Wysocki, 78, passed away quietly at home on the morning of August 25, 2026, with her husband and nurse at her side.

Yolande was born to Evariste Martin and Adrienne Bard in Green River, New Brunswick, Canada, on December 4, 1947. She grew up with 12 brothers and sisters in a very modest two-story home, in circumstances that helped shape her toughness and compassion. Even as a young woman, Yolande had a strong sense of fairness and was not afraid to stand up for students who were weaker or being bullied.

After graduating from high school in Canada, she came to Hartford to pursue her nursing education and became a bilingual Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). It was there that she met the man who would become her husband of 57 years. Together, they were a team for more than 60 years. Yolande had a remarkable ability to brighten the lives of the people around her. When she walked into a family gathering, community function, or social event, her smile and enthusiasm were infectious. Arguments seemed to stop, crying babies settled down, rebellious toddlers became reasonable, and even unfriendly animals seemed to become docile in her presence. She was a skilled artist and the kind of person who was willing to try anything at least once. You could call her adventurous, but perhaps a better description is that she was trusting as well as adventurous. She believed the people around her when they told her they would keep her safe through the adventure—and, you know, she was always right. Her adventures included winter and wilderness camping, canoeing, whitewater rafting, scuba diving, spelunking, and many other pursuits.

Yolande also worked alongside her husband in technically demanding manufacturing and quality- assurance work. Among her many responsibilities were the inspection of urethane and rubber gear belts, work involving seamless spheres used for deep-sea buoyancy control and submersibles, and thermoplastic composite finishing for companies including GE and W.R. Grace. Yolande possessed many gifts and abilities, qualities that were also evident in their son, Marcus. Like his mother, Marcus was willing to help where he was needed and to defend those who were vulnerable. He shared her connection with animals and her artistic ability, creating detailed surreal drawings.

The loss of Marcus, their only child, in 2018 was devastating to Yolande, and her health declined in the years that followed.

Yolande was a beloved member of her community and was active in organizations serving people with developmental and other disabilities. Her warmth, generosity, courage, creativity, and enthusiasm touched many lives.

In accordance with Yoland's wishes, her ashes will be buried in the Wysocki family plot at Wales #4 Cemetery, Plot 273. A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the Wales Baptist Church.

Yolande will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and the many people whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
