Elsie J. Hennessey
1947 – 2020
Longmeadow- Elsie Julia Hennessey,73, passed away on Wednesday July 1, 2020 at Bear Mountain Chestnut Hill Nursing Home in East Longmeadow. Elsie was born in Springfield, MA on February 21, 1947 a daughter to the late Joseph P. and Ethel (Fournier) Hennessey and was a graduate of Classical High School. Elsie also spent 15 years in Seminole, FL and most recently was living with her daughter and caregiver, Lyndsey K. Thomas of Chicopee.
Elsie worked hard throughout her life in various roles to support her family but worked primarily as a dump truck driver working for Gargulinski Construction for many years. She was a tough woman who had an amazing softer side as evident in all the kids she helped along throughout life while raising her own children. She was an amazing baker and there was never a shortage of cake ingredients in her home to make smiles. Elsie loved reading and enjoyed the beach, especially R.I. and Florida. Elsie experienced huge loss in her life as she was predeceased by two sons, Craig M. Thomas in 1979 and Charles “Chipper” Thomas, Jr in 2000 but carried on and did her best throughout life.
In addition to her daughter Lyndsey, Elsie leaves behind three sons, Darren P. Thomas of Holyoke; Brent C. Thomas of Ludlow and Andrew J. “Drew” Thomas of Texas; six grandchildren; Logan, Addyson, Bryce, Austyn, Cora and Mya Thomas; a brother, JP Hennessey of Greenfield, MA; two sisters, Gayle Rae of Wilbraham; Jill Hennessey-Brown of Westport, CT as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Lynn Maury and a brother, William “Troy” Hennessey.
