James Martin Obituary

Brimfield - After a Jim Dandy sundae from Friendly’s put a smile on his face the day before, on the September 23rd, 2022, James T. Martin (Better known to the world as Big Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo, Ace, and Wild Bill) passed away in his bed at Bay State Wing Hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts. It seems unfathomable to lose such an icon so soon. But then again, Jim always made his own rules. Jim was born in New Port, Rhode Island to James Charles and Theresa June Martin. A son of a Navy man, Jim grew up by the base outside of San Diego as child until moving to Wales, Massachusetts at twelve years old. After graduating from Tantasqua Regional Highschool, class of 1973 as a decorated football star, Jim went on to attend the University of New Hampshire on scholarship and played for the Wildcats. Despite a shoulder injury derailing his athletic career, Jim found his calling as a family man. He married Cynthia L. Martin (née Gadaire) in 1978 and moved from Worcester, Ma to Brimfield, Ma with their first son James J. Martin in 1985. Jim raised his two sons, Jimmy and Sean in Brimfield while working harder than anyone, as a proud member of the Massachusetts Labor Union, Local 243. As a man, he was second to none, providing those around him with laughter, adventure, community, family moments, and a sense of absurdity that was unrivaled. Ace was always there for anyone that ever needed a friend. Loyal as a dog and with a bigger heart than anyone could have imagined until they needed anything, James T. Martin was one of a kind. A loving father, son, brother and husband, Jim leaves behind his son James J. Martin, father James C. Martin, sister Elizabeth Peck, and brothers Joseph Martin and Timothy Martin. He was preceded in death by his mother Theresa “June” Martin, his partner Cindy Martin, and his son Sean Michael Martin. He will be missed, but as he is a legend, so he will never be forgotten.
