Kim I (Koehler) Athearn

Kim I. Athearn, nee Koehler, 1955-2022 passed away August 5, 2022, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.  Her best friend/husband of 46 wonderful years was at her side.  Her love, compassion and laughter will be sorely missed by all those fortunate enough to know her.  Kim’s skill and tenderness as nurse was unparalleled. Her life was filled with a passion for the outdoors be it gardening, bird watching, skiing or boating to name just a few.  Kim was also a lover of music, especially the Grateful Dead.  Once asked how many times she’d seen them, she replied “Not enough!!!”  Kim loved the music of Willy Nelson, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen and so many others.  Her latest fave was Billy Strings… if she were here she’d say check him out on YouTube! NOW!  Anyone who knew Kim knew that only she could make a fashion statement at a wedding wearing Crocks!  She is survived by her husband Jim; her sister, Janine; brother, Ken and his wife Linda as well as several wonderful nieces and nephews and lastly her dearest love Miss Phoebe the cat.
 
Kim will live on through all of the ways she shared her love, knowledge and life with us.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Kim’s memory can be made to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology 159 Sapsucker Woods Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850.
